1246 | TERRIBLE ACCIDENT — On Saturday evening, two men, named Cyrus C. Rhodes and Daniel P. Brown, of Springville, in this county, were killed at the Elk street crossing of the State Line Road. They, in company with a man named Eli Shultes, were in a lumber wagon drawn by two horses, and were on their way to Springville. On arriving at the crossing, the train which left here at 9.40 came dashing along, the locomotive striking the wagon with a tremendous crash, instantly killing Brown, his neck having been broken.— Rhodes had a portion of the back of his head taken completely off, and died in about an hour after he was struck. Shultes escaped uninjured. — Buffalo Commercial. | Rhodes, Cyrus C. (I542)

1247 | The funeral of Miss Ella Holman which was held Thursday, at the Presbyterian Church, of which she was a most devoted and useful member, was a remarkable one. It spontaneity of respect, people of all stations in life flocked to assist in the obsequies, completely filling the large church and few were the eyes that did not contribute teary homage to her memory. Friends from distant places were in attendance, some from Little Valley, were the deceased spent her last summer in teaching and making friends by her pleasing demeanor, and never unbinding love and labor for the Savior and for souls. Many, very many are the hearts, in different parts of the land, that are touched with the deepest sorrow as they realize the Ellla Holman is dead! - that no more will they enjoy the light of her smiles - never again will they hear her pleasant voice in song, in social intercourse or in wise and encouraging counsel. May her noble, unselfish, Christian life be emulated and patterned after by many. - Springville Journal and Herald, Mar. 30, 1872 | Holman, Ella Amelia (I529)
