    Davis L. Shultes, 85, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Slingerlands, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Highland Pines Nursing Manor in Clearwater. Born in Springville, Erie County, he moved to Florida from Slingerlands in 1963. He retired as the chief of the Statistics Bureau of the state Insurance Department in Albany. Mr. Shultes was chairman of the state Civil Service Employees Association and a member of its salary committee. -He was also a former member of the Clearwater Country Club and the East Bay Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Grace G. Shultes; two sons, Lamont Shultes of Bridgewater,N.J., and Lawrence Shultes of Doylestown, Pa.; a daughter, Dr.Diane Borreson of Afton, Minn.; three sisters, Vrrginia Smith of Largo, FL, Marian Freihofer of Stuart, FL, and Doris Wiley of Valley Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. - The Spotlight (Town of Bethleham and New Sotland) Jan. 20, 1993

    Lamont Shultes, a former resident of Slingerlands, died on Oct 5 at Clearwater, Florida. Mr. Shultes, a retired tax consultant, made his home in Albany until two years ago when he moved to Florida. He was the father of Davis L. Shultes, formerly of 11 South Helderberg Parkway, Slingerlands, who served for 26 years as chief of the statistical bureau of the State Insurance department. He moved to Clearwater in 1963. Mr. Shultes, a former member of Calvary Methodist church, Albany, is survived by three daughters in addition to his son: Mrs. B. V. Smith Jr. of Newtonville, Mrs. Edwin H. Freihofer of of Loudonville, and Mrs. Harold Wiley of Valley Falls. Funeral services were held on Oct. 8 with Dr. Robert E. Coleman of the First Presbyterian church of Clearwater officiating. - The Altmont Enterprise, Oct. 15, 1965

    CHESTER R. SHULTES DEAD. Chester R. Shultes, seventy-seven, life long resident of New York state, died at the home of his son La Mont Shultes, in this village, Monday morning. His wife, Mrs. De Ida M. Shultes, died last month. Mr. Shultes is survived by three sons, La Mont and Clyde and Glenn Shultes of Buffalo; two daughters, Mrs. Newell W. Canfield of Albany and Mrs. William Whitmeyer of Cattaraugus, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Ransom of Springville, and Mrs. Flora Barnard of Rochester. Funeral services were held from the home of the son in this village Wednesday afternoon and were private. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery. - Altamont Enterprise, Feb. 20, 1925

    Notes:

    Soon after marriage they left Vermont along with other members of the Rhodes and Richmond families and traveled west stopping in Cayuga Co., NY (prob. Sempronius) for several years before moving on to Concord, Erie, NY. Eliakim and his uncle George Richmond were early settlers in the Concord, NY area, both appearing in the 1810 census. The Rhodes family probably didn't move there full time until around 1816. They lived in Concord, Erie, New York from about 1816 to after 1849.
