    Notes:

    Lothop Beebe came from the town of Salisbury, Addison county, Vt., to this town in 1816, and remained two years, then started to return to Vermont. He stopped at East Bloomfield, Ontario county, and remained there about three and a-half years and worked at blacksmithing. He was married Feb. 1820 to Sally Bemus and returned to Springville in June 1821. He has lived in Concord about forty years of his life, and in Ashford about twenty, and has followed the business of blacksmithing and farming. In 1825, he built a blacksmith shop on Main street, in Springville, extending from George E, Crandall's store to the west. In 1826 he built a dwelling house where Richmond's brick store stands, on the corner of Main and Mechanic streets. He carried on the business of blacksmithing here several years. He served as a soldier in the war of 1812 in the eastern country and after he came here he held different offices in the militia and was made Colonel of the 248th Regiment, with Homer Barnes, Lieutenant Colonel and David Bensley, Major.     Solomon Beebe enlisted, 1776. under Capt. Comstock and served 1777 under Capt. George Webb to the close of the war. He was at Danbury, White Plains and Yorktown where he was disabled. He was honorably discharged 1783 at West Point. In 1818 he received a pension in Addison County, Vermont for service as private, Massachusetts line.

    Joseph Bowker was born in Hopkinton, Massachusetts on December 28, 1725 in Hopkinton. After being orphaned he was raised by a guardian, whose daughter he later married. Bowker was a farmer and served with the British during the French and Indian War. Most of his service was spent on garrison duty at Fort Ticonderoga, and as a result of it Bowker was usually referred to as "Captain Bowker" for the rest of his life. In 1773 Bowker relocated to Rutland, Vermont. In addition to farming he was involved in several business enterprises, including establishing the town's first sawmill. After settling in Rutland Bowker served in several local offices, including Town Clerk and Treasurer and Selectman. He was also the first Judge of the Rutland County Court and Rutland County's first Probate Judge. Bowker served as Chairman or President of several conventions of delegates called to organize Vermont and plan its activities during the American Revolution During the War Bowker also served on Vermont's Board of War, as a Sequestration Commissioner, and a Commissary in charge of acquiring supplies and equipment for Vermont's military. In 1778 was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives and served as the body's first ever Speaker of the House. He resigned as Speaker in order to accept a position on the Governor's Council.
