556 | Davis L. Shultes, 85, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Slingerlands, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Highland Pines Nursing Manor in Clearwater. Born in Springville, Erie County, he moved to Florida from Slingerlands in 1963. He retired as the chief of the Statistics Bureau of the state Insurance Department in Albany. Mr. Shultes was chairman of the state Civil Service Employees Association and a member of its salary committee. -He was also a former member of the Clearwater Country Club and the East Bay Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Grace G. Shultes; two sons, Lamont Shultes of Bridgewater,N.J., and Lawrence Shultes of Doylestown, Pa.; a daughter, Dr.Diane Borreson of Afton, Minn.; three sisters, Vrrginia Smith of Largo, FL, Marian Freihofer of Stuart, FL, and Doris Wiley of Valley Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. - The Spotlight (Town of Bethleham and New Sotland) Jan. 20, 1993 | Shultes, Davis L. 573 | Enos Hawley, the grandfather of our subject, was born in Chester County, Pa.,and when young moved with his parents to Lycoming County, where he learned the trade of a tanner. He first located in Muncy but later went to Hughesville where he succeeded to his father's business and continued it until his retirement,when he removed to Muncy. He was appointed postmaster and served in that capacity for seventeen years. He was a good general business man and lived along and useful life, dying at the age of eighty years; his wife died at the age of seventy-eight years. He married Mary Sweeney, a daughter of John Sweeney, a soldier of the Revolutionary War who lived to reach the age of ninety-nine years, and their union was blessed by the birth of four children: John Milton,the father of our subject; Robert, who married Sarah J. 577 | Ethel Elizabeth Unverdorf, 83, passed away June 19, 2014. She was born October 10, 1930, to Carl and Sara Campbell in Philadelphia. Ethel was a 54-year resident of Boulder City. She was preceded in death by her husband and one true love, Robert Unverdorf. She is survived by a son, Lynn R. Unverdorf. The summer before her senior year of high school Ethel moved to East Aurora with her parents. After graduating, she became a beautician and had a long career as a hair stylist licensed in New York, Florida and Nevada. Both Ethel and her husband mentored, trained and led many local youth in competition shooting with the Boulder City Golf Club. Ethel herself was a competition shooter.
