  • Notes
    • Obituary: BUFFALO, N.Y. - The death of Mary J. Shorten occured here on March 19, 1985. Born January 9, 1889 in Centennial, she was the daughter of Angus and Mary Ann (MacDonald) MacDonald. As a young girl, like many of her age, she left home to work in Trenton where she met and married Frederick C. Shorten. Widowed at an early age and with six children to support, she left the children with her widowed mother and went to Boston to find work and establish a home. With this accomplished, she sent for her children and lived in Boston for a number of years. To be closer to a son who had gone to Buffalo to work, she made her final move to Buffalo where her family prospered and multiplied to six children, 23 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Alice of Buffalo, Florence of Niagara Falls, Lillian of Florida and one brother, Malcolm A. of Canton, Mass., and Long Point, C.B. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Mamie; two sons, Angus and John; two sisters, Flora and Katie; three brothers, John Archie, Alex F. and Dan A. Her funeral and burial was in Buffalo.
