1040 | Mrs. Benjamin Dies at Masonic Home Emma Kenney Benjamin, 82, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Masonic hospital at Alma, Mich., where she had been a patient for the last 15 days. Mrs. Benjamin was born at Covert. She and her husband, Dewitt, lived in Detroit for many years and have lived at the Masonic home at Alma for the last year. She was a sister of the late Will Kenney, life-long Covert resident. Besides her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Rindt, Chicago, survives. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Edith Calvin Funeral home here, with the Rev. William Goltz, Congregational pastor, officiating. 1041 | Mrs. Pitcher, Sardinia Town Clerk Mrs. Ida E. Pitcher, 77, of Savage Rd., Sardinia, who took over her husband's post as Sardinia town clerk after he died in 1935, died Wednesday (Dec. 13, 1972) in Wyoming County Community Hospital, Warsaw, after a long illness. She held the clerk's post until 1941. She also operated her husband's 40-head dairy farm from 1935 until 1939, when she remarried. Her second husband, Morris A. Pitcher, died in 1970. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Harriett Van Slyke of Sardinia; a brother, Erwin Sweetapple of Holland; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A son, Victor Harrison, died while serving as a pilot in World War II. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 pm in Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville. 1042 | Ms. Hawley was a teacher at the normal school, later known as the Fitchburg Teachers College. She was also the author of textbooks and educational articles. Among the books she authored was Teaching English in junior high schools: a study of methods and devices and Adventures in Old World History.
